Why you should care
- The Gray Wolves are endangered because of the recent habitat destruction and environmental changes, most of which is directly tied to human activity. Humans are also hunting these animals either for recreational purposes or because they think that the wolves are too dangerous to keep around.
- Organizations such as the Wildlife Conservation Society, Defenders of Wildlife, Center for Biological Diversity, and many more are raising awareness for the conservation of endangered species such as the Gray Wolf. They are also providing places where you can donate money. People are also trying to change the mindset of others that Gray Wolves are terrible creatures that need to be killed off. Now with laws such as the Endangered Species Act, animals that are near extinction such as the Gray Wolf are being helped. The Gray Wolves are slowly being reintroduced to their original habitats by people releasing them into wildlife preserves and national parks. One example of this would be Yellowstone National Park.
What we are doing
In support of what is already being done, our organization wants to build and run an outdoor reserve for Gray Wolves. In this area, we would take in rescued Gray Wolves and protect them within our borders by letting them live and reproduce in peace without disturbance of unwanted humans. The professional veterinarians that we would hire would stay and observe the Gray Wolves during the day, and if any symptoms of illnesses show in the wolves, the vets would diagnose them. If an illness does occur, we would send the wolf to a nearby animal hospital. Our reserve would be in Alaska at the address of Mile 317.5 Parks Highway. The hospital that we would send the sick Gray Wolves to would be a hospital in Fairbanks called Animal House Veterinary Hospital. On top of the funds that we are requesting from you, we are planning on using social media such as Twitter and Instagram. We are thinking of using social media as a way to spread the word around the world that we are trying to help the Gray Wolves and what people can do to help. We will accomplish this by setting up a way for people to donate money to our organization through multiple ways such as through mail, internet, or links in social media. People can find posts explaining our plan by searching through the hashtag #savethegwolf.
Funds
We will need...
$475,000 for 567 acres of land in Alaska where some Gray Wolves already live
$288,000 for the salary of three trained veterinarians for one year
Around $50,000 to feed 50 Gray Wolves for one year
Hunters could also donate animals that they hunt such as deer to our program that they don't plan on eating or using
in any other way so food costs could be more affordable
$917,010 total for three ambulances and other equipment to transport injured wolves to nearby hospitals
For each ambulance...
$182,731 for supplies, equipment, and ambulance personnel
$122,939 for actual ambulance and gas
$42,500 for advertising our organization on 50 different local TV stations to collect donations from business and the public
In total, we are requesting $1,772,930 from you to fund our plan.
Once the money that isn't for advertising runs out, we will use the advertising money we initially set aside to start increasing notice of our facility so the general public can see what we are doing and they will be encouraged to donate. With the money that you give us now, we will pay for the land and the ambulances. We will also be set for a full year with money for the food and vets. We are also going to open up volunteer opportunities to assist the vets. Since we can't have just anyone caring for our wolves, we will only take people who have a college degree in animal science or a similar degree. This ensures that the people we allow to be volunteers will be able to care for the wolves properly. With the money we make from advertising, we will be able to pay the veterinarians and for food for the wolves for each year we run our reserve.
